What are Sash windows?
Sash windows are made up of two glazed panels, known as sashes, and are available in either single-hung or double-hung designs. They slide smoothly up and down on a vertical track — with single-hung windows featuring one moving sash, while double-hung windows allow both sashes to move for improved ventilation and flexibility. Available in both double and triple glazing options, our sliding sash windows combine traditional design with modern energy efficiency. Depending on your chosen glazing specification, you’ll benefit from improved insulation, reduced heat loss, and enhanced noise reduction. For added convenience, our sliding sash windows can also tilt inwards, making them easy to clean safely from inside your home.
Warmer Home, Lower Bills
Double glazed sash windows help keep the heat in your home with thermal inserts to stop warm air escaping, and high-performance pile weather seals to reduce draughts.
Perfect for Conservation Areas
Customisable features like Georgian bars, decorative horns and heritage-style window furniture mean our Elite sash windows are easily tailored for homes in conservation areas.
Open with Ease
Perfectly counterbalanced through a system of hidden runners and springs, the internal open and close mechanism makes operating sliding sash windows smooth and easy.
Modern Security Features
Key-operated cam locks and limit stops are standard on our sliding sash windows. Security bars and reinforced sashes further prevent intruders.

Your Questions on Sash Windows Answered by Us
Can you double glaze existing sash windows?
It is not possible to double glaze existing single glazed sash windows. You can upgrade your existing single glazed sliding sash windows to Anglian double glazed sash windows. If you are looking to increase your window energy performance and are looking for a more affordable way to do so, then secondary glazing is a good option. Secondary glazing fits behind your existing sash windows, providing extra warmth and sound insulation.
Can you insulate sash windows?
The best way to insulate sash windows is with cost-effective secondary glazing. However, if your windows have seen better days and are draughty, it might be time to consider new double glazed A-rated uPVC sash windows to improve your window energy performance.
What are timber sash windows made from?
Timber sash windows can be made from softwood or hardwood. We have a choice of both hardwood and softwood available, made from FSC®-certified and other controlled material. The FSC® label means that wood used for timber sash windows have been responsibly sourced. The timber is weather-sealed and has a 30-year guarantee against rot and fungal attack.
How do you measure up for sash replacement windows?
To measure up for replacement sash windows, you need to measure the sash window width and height, as well as the box frame width and height (the size of the hole in which the window is set). Our sliding sash windows are custom made to fir your home, contact us to book a free remote quotation today.
Can you soundproof sash windows?
Yes, the best way to soundproof sash windows is with secondary glazing. However, brand new windows with a higher energy rating tend to also be a significant upgrade from single glazed sliding sash windows for reducing noise.
